Who We Are

HealthComm Solutions is a small, women-owned business located in Boise, Idaho. We work with clients from across the country to provide quality consulting services at a reasonable fee. The majority of our business is generated via referrals from satisfied clients.

Barbara Gordon serves as principal consultant for HealthComm Solutions. Her public health expertise spans 30 years across disparate settings.  She offers the health knowledge and creative strategic approaches required to produce success for individuals, families and organizations.

As a licensed Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Barbara provides nutrition counseling and health coaching. Areas of specialization include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and weight management, as well as urological conditions. Leveraging hands-on public health knowledge, she also develops health education materials for clients across the nation. Health literacy is another area of expertise—she is skilled at translating complex scientific and medical language into plain language. Lay publications include magazine and news articles, health curriculum and interactive lessons plans, and hundreds of educational materials on a wide-range of health and nutrition education topics.

Technical assistance expertise draws on experience gleaned leading multi-million dollar public affairs programs for organizations such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As Executive Director of the Interstitial Cystitis Association, she directed advocacy, research, and educational initiatives. Under her leadership, the association’s online and print resources received national recognition. For the Association of American Medical Colleges, Barbara assumed leadership of a highly visible social enterprise with damaged public confidence. By facilitating public forums and reorienting the management approach, she restored confidence and revived this revenue-generating service program.

Barbara brings an appreciation for reaching special populations, respecting cultural differences, and crafting targeted content and messages. Extensive experience includes health program development for diverse audiences, including African Americans, American Indians/Alaskan Natives, and Latinos/Hispanics. She has also developed materials for seniors, faith communities, women, and active duty military. Barbara is a member of the National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities, a national coalition working to create a sustainable approach to combating health disparities and achieving health equity.

Barbara regularly collaborates on research. Peer-reviewed publications span Omega-3 fatty acids and urological inflammation, complementary and alternative therapies, and clinical guidelines for bladder pain syndrome. Barbara also has a special interest in women’s health. She served as an expert reviewer for the Practice Paper of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Nutrition and Women’s Heath. For the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, she wrote two chapters of the book, The Healthy Women: A Complete Guide for All Ages. Barbara also participates in advisory committees guiding research agendas. Past committee appointments include the NIH Multidisciplinary Approaches to the Study of Chronic Pelvic Pain Research Network and Office of Research on Women’s Health Ten Year Plan and Research Agenda. She was also the only RDN to serve on the American Urological Association IC/BPS Clinical Guidelines Committee (2011 and 2014).
